The authorities of Spanish Marbella are taking a firm stance. They are already fed up with people who relieve themselves while swimming in the sea. Beachgoers urinating in the water will be fined around 820 dollars.
These penalties are part of a new regulation governing the use of 25 city beaches in Marbella.
The ban on urinating in the water is not new; it has been in force since 2004. However, the previous fine was 300 euros.
The penalty has now more than doubled. How people urinating in the water will be identified remains unclear.
Vigo, one of the largest cities in Galicia, was the first to introduce a 750-euro fine for urinating on the beach or in the sea.
