The Italian agency reported that this incident unfolded while people were undergoing routine checks on Via della Conciliazione before reaching Saint Peter's Square for the Angelus prayer with the Pope.

The man was requested to open the bag he was carrying. He initially refused, but when pressured by an officer, he pulled a knife from the pack and shallowly wounded the officer's leg.

He was promptly restrained and arrested. According to Ansa, it's probable that he is a mentally unstable individual.
