We often adhere to familiar recipes, assuming that going for something new would require more time and effort. But, is this assumption always accurate?
Based on my experience, I say it's not, as I show in today's idea for a delicious family dinner. You'll shortly realize it doesn't take much to whip up a magnificent culinary experience at home, and all these with just a handful of basic ingredients.
Casseroles: The straightforward path to a delightful dinner
You will know I spend significant time in the kitchen if you have read my articles. My love for experimentation has opened the doors to a plethora of discoveries. One such revelation is that a swift dinner wouldn't necessarily demand you to slave over a pasta pot.
A potato casserole can be just as satisfying. You may be doubtful initially, but bear with me for a few more minutes and everything will make sense. Firstly, this kind of dish welcomes a broad variety of ingredients as virtually everything is compatible with potatoes. Secondly, you simply have to merge the ingredients, slide them into the oven, and voila! The oven does the rest of the work, opening up your time for a well-deserved break. Isn't that ingenious?
For the egg mixture:
- 4 eggs
- ¾ cup of 30% cream
- Seasonings: salt and pepper.
For the cheese and bacon rolls:
- 6 slices of yellow cheese
- 12 slices of bacon
- ½ cup of grated mozzarella.
For the potato layer:
- 3 potatoes
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- Seasonings: salt, pepper, oregano.
Instructions:
- Begin by peeling and grating the potatoes or cutting them into small cubes according to your preference.
- Mix the potatoes with the olive oil and seasonings before transferring them to a baking dish.
- Next, prepare the egg mixture by combining the eggs, cream, and seasonings. Pour this mixture into the dish over the potatoes.
- Then, put together the cheese and bacon rolls by rolling the cheese slices up in the bacon.
- Place these rolls on top of the potatoes in the baking dish and sprinkle additional grated cheese over everything.
- Finally, bake the dish in the oven at 356 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. There you have it, enjoy your meal!
