On Saturday, April 5, a massive protest took place on the streets of Palma in Majorca. Protesters expressed their opposition to the increasing number of tourists, which is exacerbating the housing crisis. As highlighted by gazeta.pl, this issue affects not only Majorca but also other popular tourist regions in Spain.

Spain has been struggling with a housing crisis for years, exacerbated by excessive tourism. Last year, residents' protests intensified, with some resorting to attacking tourists with water guns. Last month, seven protest groups sent a letter to tourists, asking them to avoid Majorca.

The letter, filled with indignation and anger, warned that "Majorca is not an idyll." Residents emphasize that tourists contribute to economic and housing problems. Similar protest movements are observed in Barcelona and the Canary Islands, where efforts are also being made to reduce the number of visitors.

The letter concludes with a dramatic appeal to tourists not to visit regions of Spain that are struggling with an excessive influx of tourists. Residents stress that tourists are a major source of the problems they face.

Majorca is not the paradise you are being sold. Our land is being destroyed, and many of us have to leave the island, they write in the letter.

Majorca a hit for summer

Majorca is known for its beautiful, sandy beaches, which are perfect for relaxation. The golden sands, azure waters, and mild climate make seaside tourism one of the island's main attractions.

Along the coast, you can find both peaceful, intimate beaches and more touristy spots like Playa de Palma or Cala Millor. For water sports enthusiasts, Majorca is also a paradise. Windsurfing, sailing, diving, or parasailing are just some of the activities you can enjoy here.
