Major quake rocks Bangkok, residents flee as buildings sway
On Friday, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Bangkok. The epicenter was located in Myanmar. There is currently no information about damage or casualties.
Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, experienced this significant earthquake. According to the AP agency, the epicenter was located in neighboring Myanmar. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake was shallow, just 6 miles below the Earth's surface.
The epicenter was in central Myanmar, about 31 miles east of the city of Monywa. However, there are no reports of significant effects in Myanmar.
In Bangkok, the earthquake caused buildings to sway, triggering panic among residents. Many people were evacuated from skyscrapers and hotels. Water spilled out of pools on the rooftops of skyscrapers. So far, no official reports of damage or fatalities have been made.
On social media, footage appeared showing residents fleeing in panic through the crowded streets of Bangkok. A video on Twitter captured the moment a high-rise under construction collapsed. The footage shows the building collapsing like a house of cards, with clouds of dust rising above the street.
