The individual suspected of fatally shooting 18 people and injuring 13 in Lewiston, Maine, has been confirmed dead. This information has been released by local police. Concurrently, media outlets have begun to speculate on a potential motive for the crime.

Robert Card was discovered dead on Friday around 7:45 p.m. local time near the Androscoggin River close to the town of Lisbon, Maine. Authorities have stated that the details surrounding Card's death will remain confidential.

Media reports, though unconfirmed, propose that the 40-year-old US Army Reserve sergeant might have possibly taken his own life. "Like many people, I breathed a sigh of relief tonight, knowing that Robert Card no longer poses a threat to anyone. Now is the time for healing," commented Maine Governor Jenet Mills.

The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday at multiple locations. Security personnel have not yet revealed the motive behind the act.

Media speculates: why did Card open fire?

Unofficial reports from CNN suggest that Robert Card recently ended his relationship and frequently frequented the locations where the shootings took place, such as a bowling alley and bar. His ex-partner was allegedly present at one of these sites on the day of the incident.

A peculiar incident involving Card occurred a few months back. Police had been summoned to the military base where Card was stationed due to his "aggressive behavior and possible alcohol impairment".

During this time, he claimed to be "hearing voices" and pondering "inflicting harm on fellow soldiers". Following this event, he was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation. CNN reports that, a mere 10 days before this event, Card had legally obtained a firearm.
