President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on Monday, he had a conversation with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, with the main topic being support for Ukraine. The discussion included "the deployment of contingents" of partner military personnel on Ukrainian territory.

"It was a rather long and detailed conversation. We discussed defence support – various forms of defence, arms packages for Ukraine," Zelensky said in an evening video address.

During the conversation, the leaders also discussed investments in purchasing missiles for Ukraine. "We also discussed the deployment of partner contingents and the training of our military," the Ukrainian president added, noting that the conversation included training Ukrainian soldiers in France.

Talks on the deployment of French troops in Ukraine

The AFP agency recalls that on January 10, Macron and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, talked about further support and security guarantees for Ukraine.

It was reported as early as the beginning of December that Ukraine is considering Macron's proposal to deploy Western troops. Macron suggested that such a possibility should not be ruled out in the future to ensure Ukraine's security.
