Alexa Wingerter caught the attention of investigators in March. The police initiated an investigation after receiving disturbing complaints about the teacher. An employee of Slidell High School - located northeast of New Orleans - maintained "inappropriate relationships" with her students and "sent them inappropriate photos and messages".

The investigation opened a Pandora's box. After multiple interviews with school community members and several searches, the woman was charged. She was accused of prohibited sexual conduct between a student and a teacher, as well as illegal purchases of alcohol for a person under 21 years of age.

The teacher had sex with students

"Investigators found sufficient evidence that Wingerter had maintained inappropriate sexual relations with at least one 18-year-old student while also acting as his guardian," - the Slidell city police wrote in a press release. Investigators emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and asked victims of the teacher to report to law enforcement.

The revelations about Wingerter do not end there. According to the police findings, the woman took students to local bars, where she bought them alcohol. This fact will also affect the final extent of the punishment.

Following the scandal, the teacher lost her job at the school. She was arrested and released after posting a bail of $3,500.

"The safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities. All misconduct allegations are taken very seriously and reported directly to law enforcement. Any behaviour that endangers the safety of children will not be tolerated," - conveyed in a letter to the parents of the district curator, Frank Jabbia.
