Lottery winner Edwin Castro's Malibu home reduced to ashes

Fires in Los Angeles have affected many well-known and wealthy individuals. Among those impacted is Edwin Castro, a millionaire who won two billion dollars in the lottery and lost his ocean-view home in fire-ravaged Malibu.

Edwin Castro won two billion dollars in the Powerball lottery in February 2023. It was the largest win in the history of the game. According to "Bild," he purchased a house with a view of the Pacific in Malibu, a resort on the coast right next to Los Angeles. It cost approximately 3.8 million euros.

As a result of the fires that have been sweeping through California in recent days, Malibu has also suffered. Unfortunately, the millionaire's house was completely destroyed; only ashes remain.

However, Castro is not left without a roof over his head. The billionaire also owns a house in Hollywood Hills worth about 26 million dollars and a property in Altadena valued at 4 million dollars. Although both places are in threatened areas, they have not, at least for the moment, been destroyed by the natural disaster.

Fires continue to ravage California

The dramatic situation in California has been ongoing for a week. The fires, which have claimed the lives of at least 24 people, are further intensified by strong winds that hinder the work of firefighting teams.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service (NWS) warn of continued strong winds in California, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph. The highest level of warning has been issued for a "particularly dangerous situation" due to the extreme fire conditions.

Firefighting aircraft are unable to operate, significantly hampering the battle against the raging fires. The "Los Angeles Times" reports that wind speeds exceeding 40 mph make it impossible for planes to take off safely and accurately drop water and fire retardant.
