Lockheed Martin's new missile doubles range
The latest military-conducted tests at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico have been a pivotal moment in the trial process, validating the range and accuracy of this new type of ammunition. These trials move us closer to the decision of launching mass production of the new missiles.
Work on the ER GMLRS, which stands for Extended Range, started in 2017. It remains compatible in size with the previous GMLRS missile variant and can be launched from the same containers as the older 227 mm missiles, over 60,000 of which have been produced.

A significant benefit of the new missile is its extended range, reaching up to 93 miles, alongside improved accuracy and the capability for sharper maneuvers. At the onset of the trial process, Gaylia Campbell, a representative of the Lockheed Martin corporation, highlighted these enhancements.
Potential clients for the new missiles include existing users of HIMARS systems. This group consists of Poland and its HOMAR-A system, which has already received approval from the State Department to purchase up to 532 packages of ER GMLRS missiles.
