It features apples, onions, celery, and potatoes familiar from the vegetable salad, along with herring, pickles, and beets, which give it a completely new character. Every bite is full of flavor. The ingredients don't compete with one another but create a cohesive whole.

The main ingredient of the salad is herring, which, combined with red beets, potatoes, pickles, and apples, creates an extraordinary flavor composition. All of this is enveloped in a creamy sour cream and mustard sauce, giving the dish a unique aroma. The salad looks beautiful in the bowl, and the herring itself is not off-putting in smell.

Lviv salad is an exceptional traditional dish originating from Ukrainian cuisine. It works excellently as a snack for parties or family events, thanks to its intense flavor and rich ingredients. Ingredients:

                  
  • 6-8 herring fillets in oil
  • 4-6 large beets
  • 4 potatoes
  • 6-7 pickles
  • 4-6 apples
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • Celery
  • 1 jar of pickled mushrooms

Sauce:

        
  • 2 cups of sour cream
  • 1 jar of Russian mustard
  • Sugar, salt, and pepper to taste

Instructions:

                
  1. Boil potatoes, beets, and celery in their skins until they are soft. A fork should easily pierce the skin.
  2. Peel and dice them.
  3. Peel and dice the apples. Do the same with the herring.
  4. Chop the mushrooms and onion into smaller pieces.
  5. Transfer all ingredients to a large bowl, drizzle with oil, and let sit overnight so the flavors can meld.
  6. Mix the sour cream well with mustard, season with salt and sugar, and pour into the salad.
  7. Mix thoroughly so the sauce coats all the ingredients. If necessary, season with salt, pepper, or sugar.
