Lithuania's President Nauseda wins re‑election in a landslide victory
Incumbent President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, won the second round of the presidential election on Sunday. After counting votes from more than half of the electoral commissions, it was found that Nauseda received 83.75 percent of the votes, while his rival, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, received 14.83 percent.

Nauseda was the clear favorite from the beginning of the election. Voter turnout during Sunday's voting was 53.43 percent.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte acknowledged her defeat and congratulated Gitanas Nauseda on his victory. "I would like to congratulate the President-elect of Lithuania," Simonyte told journalists in the evening.

Sixty-year-old Gitanas Nauseda, who won the second round of the presidential election in Lithuania on Sunday, is an economist with a doctorate in social sciences. He is a pro-European politician who actively advocates for increased security in the region and support for Ukraine in its defensive war against Russia.
The President of Lithuania speaks German, English, and Russian; his hobbies include chess, tennis, and music. He has been married to Diana Nausediene for 32 years, with whom he has two daughters, Ugne and Gedaile.
Nauseda does not belong to any political party. He ran in the election as an independent candidate. Although he received support from the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, observers point out that his views are often very conservative.
While seeking re-election, Nauseda did not hide his excitement about victory. He emphasized that his win would allow him to continue the work he had done over the past five years.
