Liam Payne, a member of One Direction, died on October 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. His death shocked fans worldwide. The musician's close ones believe that an immediate call for an ambulance could have prevented the worst. The investigation is ongoing. The police are still trying to determine exactly what happened before the tragedy.
Friend of Liam Payne accused of negligence
Payne’s friend, whose identity has not been revealed in local Argentine reports, was accused of negligence. This concerns the fact that he did not inform Liam’s family about his relapse into drug addiction, as reported by the Argentine newspaper "La Nacion."
The judge ruled that the friend violated his caregiving duties towards Payne and now faces a prison sentence ranging from two to six years.
Meanwhile, a hotel employee and an alleged drug dealer were accused of supplying Payne with illegal substances. The identities of these individuals have also not been disclosed, but it is known that the hotel employee was dismissed from CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where Payne stayed before his death.
New findings in the investigation of Liam Payne's death
This week, TMZ reported that authorities conducted raids as part of the investigation, searching various locations connected to the suspects. The police checked hotel lockers and video footage and secured various items, including documents and videos, that might be relevant to the investigation.
During subsequent searches, investigators found the phone number of the alleged drug dealer and soon after visited his home in Lomas de Zamora, Argentina. From his home, a jar of marijuana, nine cell phones, three computers, and two portable storage devices were confiscated. It appears that the hotel employee contacted him to supply Payne with drugs.
The toxicology report revealed that the musician had several substances in his system, including "pink cocaine," which is a mixture of several drugs such as ecstasy, ketamine, caffeine, and the psychoactive substance 2-CB (also known as Tusi), used in the treatment of sexual disorders. Additionally, cocaine, crack, and benzodiazepines—sedatives—were detected in his system.
