Few Formula 1 drivers can boast such a career start as Lewis Hamilton. After taking second place in his debut season in 2007 with the McLaren team, the British driver proved his capabilities a year later, winning the championship title.
In the following years, he was unable to repeat this feat, though he regularly ranked among the top. It wasn't until he changed club colors that he made his way back to the top. He later won six championship titles with the Mercedes team.
Now up for sale is the race car in which Lewis Hamilton achieved his first victory for Mercedes. It's the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04, which the Germans prepared for the 2013 season. Although they did not manage to win the constructor's championship title, the car was extremely competitive.
The Briton had stood on the podium numerous times thanks to it, and during the Hungarian GP, he secured his first victory in what were then new colors. The driver started in a car put up for sale in 14 out of 19 races. Just a year later, Lewis began his domination in Mercedes.
Equally important, it is the last race car equipped with a loud, screaming V8 engine. The unit generated a power of around 750 HP from a 2.4 liter displacement. As befits race cars from this season, it also included a KERS and DRS system, and together with the driver and vehicle fluids, it weighed a modest 642 kg.
The bolide will be auctioned off at the RM Sotheby’s auction in Las Vegas on November 17, 2023. The price? You'd better sit down. It's estimated that Hamilton's "office" from 2013 will reach a price of 10-15 million USD (approx. 43.5-65.3 million PLN). Any takers?
