During his address before Congress, Donald Trump mentioned the "shocking wastefulness" of state funds, citing $8 million allocated for promoting LGBTQI+ initiatives in Lesotho. He remarked that "no one has ever heard" of the nation.

Social media erupted, with the Lesotho government representative also unable to hide his surprise and outrage.

The Foreign Minister of the country, Lejone Mpotjoane, found these words offensive and extended an invitation to Trump to visit Lesotho, describing it as a "significant and unique nation."

Response to aid suspension

In reference to the suspension of foreign aid by the Trump administration, the minister stated that his country's healthcare had been dependent on this aid for some time, but acknowledged that Trump has the right to make such a decision.

"We must accept that. But such a description of my country was quite unfortunate," he noted.
