Let's recall that LeBron James decided his future at the beginning of July. The 39-year-old reached an agreement on a new, two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Under it, he could earn as much as $104 million.
However, what is equally important is that the contract allows the player to decide his future. It includes a player option for the 2025/2026 season and a no-trade clause without his consent.
"He is our highest-paid player, but he's still a bargain to me. He is absolutely incredible. Because we are a salary cap league, we can't pay him more. He brings us notoriety in the League, but also internationally. He's a great star and a great leader for this team," said club owner Jeanie Buss during the Petros and Money show on AM 570 LA Sports.
LeBron's life after career
LBJ has been playing in these competitions since 2003. Before joining the Lakers, he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.
In the 2023/2024 campaign, LeBron James averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 71 games. The upcoming season will already be his twenty-second on the courts of the best league in the world.
And what will he do after retiring? There are a few options. One of them is that he will become... a sports commentator.
"I don't know, I definitely love the sport. I see Tom Brady doing it, he's been great so far. We will see, even if it's just a guest appearance for 1 game or 2 when I'm done playing," said LeBron James, as quoted by probasket.
