"This is an ecological protest, but also a political one, prompted by a complete lack of trust in our authorities," Milosz, a participant in the demonstration, told PAP. Saturday's protest in Belgrade was preceded by a series of demonstrations organized over two weeks in many cities of Serbia. It was triggered by the government's decision to reinstate the Jadar project, under which the international corporation Rio Tinto will begin exploiting Serbia's lithium deposits. The project was halted at the beginning of 2022 following mass public protests.
  • Former Catalonian Prime Minister Carles Puigdemont, who returned briefly to Barcelona on Thursday after seven years in exile and then left the city, was assisted by a group of regional police officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra - according to a report published by the authorities of this security formation on Saturday.
  • Julia Szeremeta, by winning the silver medal at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris, made her mark in Polish sports history. Polish boxing had been waiting 32 years for this medal (since Wojciech Bartnik's bronze in 1992 in Barcelona). Many foreign portals are writing about her success.
  • The USA basketball team won their fifth consecutive Olympic championship. In the final in Paris, they defeated France 98-87 (20-15, 29-26, 23-25, 26-21). The "Tricolors" won silver for the second time in a row. The bronze was won by Serbia after a victory over the world champions Germany, 93-83.
