Lamborghini's game-changing moving hubs set to revolutionize driving dynamics

Lamborghini has demonstrated the tests of an entirely new solution that could be groundbreaking in terms of driving dynamics. They have introduced moving hubs that enable active changes in the convergence and tilt of wheels during driving.

As you can see, even such a simple element can be improved.

The system can adjust a wheel tilt from -2.5 degrees to 5.5 degrees. The convergence, alternatively, is adjustable within a range of 6.6 degrees in every direction. Electric motors, running on a 400-volt circuit, regulate its operation. They modify the tilt and convergence of the rotating flanges embedded in the hub assembly.

Lamborghini asserts that the solution is quite efficient on the racetrack. In preliminary tests, it enhanced the timings on the Nardo circuit on average by 2.5 seconds, and at Imola by 2.2 seconds. At the Nürburgring, this improvement amounted to 5 seconds.

The Italians openly admit that the system performs best in tight corners. They also report that they are still improving this technology. It is predicted to be integrated into production vehicles within the next two years.

It's important to mention that the greatest challenge is not the physical refinement of the design. Rather, it is the development of software that would maximize its benefits.
