Lamborghini recalls 2,133 SUVs over dangerous hood defect

The Lamborghini sports SUV is one of the most expensive cars in the world. Unfortunately, even these prestigious vehicles have their flaws. The Italians have recently announced a recall concerning the engine hood.

The hood may detach from the vehicle in some units, especially when driving at higher speeds. As you can imagine, the consequences of this defect can be severe and, in extreme cases, deadly.

This issue may affect 2,133 units in the Performante and S versions produced in the years 2023-2024. The manufacturer claims the defect occurs in no more than 2 percent of units, but they prefer to be cautious.

Lamborghini informs that some cars have defective rivets securing the hood latch. At speeds above 90 mph, these can result in excessive gaps between the bumper and the hood and, consequently, its detachment.

The first reports regarding this issue appeared in August of last year. At that time, there were two warranty claims concerning improper fitting of the hood and fender. In February 2024, in Indonesia, the hood spontaneously detached while an Urus was in motion.

Following this incident, Lamborghini immediately changed the rivet supplier and resolved the problem. Now, however, they must implement improvements in the already sold units. Their owners will be notified of the issue and invited to service.
