Lady Gaga stands up for trans rights during Grammy triumph
At this year's Grammy Awards, Lady Gaga not only received the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance but also expressed her support for transgender individuals who have recently faced attacks from Donald Trump.
We recently concluded the 67th Grammy Awards ceremony, which was, as always, filled with a substantial dose of emotions. One of the music awards went to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. The artists were recognized for their song "Die With A Smile." They were both present on stage to accept the award.
Lady Gaga did not hide her emotions during her acknowledgments. The singer, who has been a strong ally of sexual minorities since her career, highlighted the LGBTQ+ community during her speech.
"It’s such an honor to sing for all of you. I just want to say tonight that trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love. Thank you," said an emotional Gaga with tears in her eyes.
Lady Gaga gave an emotional speech
The star's speech was met with loud applause and cheers from the well-known faces in the audience, who immediately rose to their feet. Social media recordings show Beyoncé, Charli XCX, and Billie Eilish's reactions. The appeal was clearly related to Donald Trump's recent attacks on the LGBTQ community.
Before officially returning to the White House, the Republican announced his intention to put an end to what he called "transgender madness." Consequently, President Donald Trump signed orders to, among other things, limit healthcare tailored to transgender youth. He also deemed transgender members of the U.S. military "unfit" for service and signed an order stating that there are "only two genders."
