"Due to enemy shelling in Kyiv and the region, as well as in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, preventive power outages are being applied," stated Ukrinform, quoting the head of the capital's military administration, Serhiy Popko.
The Ukrainian Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, previously reported that the main target of Russia's extensive missile attack on Ukraine is the power system.
As a result, it was decided to implement "emergency power shutdowns."
Emergency power outages
The lights went out in some districts of Odessa in southern Ukraine, causing trams and trolleybuses to come to a halt. The Ukrainian energy operator DTEK implemented emergency power outages in the Kyiv region and two others in the east of the country.
"Another massive attack on the power system is underway. The enemy is targeting energy generation and transmission facilities across Ukraine. Where possible, rescuers and energy workers are already working to mitigate the effects," Halushchenko wrote on Facebook.
The Ukrainian president also addressed the attack.
"A massive attack on all regions of Ukraine. Last night and this morning, Russian terrorists used various types of drones, including Shaheds, as well as cruise, ballistic, and aeroballistic missiles. In total, about 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched. Our air defense forces destroyed over 140 targets," President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote.
