Many pieces of information provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the Russian Federation's information war.
The first debate between the U.S. presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, took place early Wednesday morning Eastern Time. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov joined the ranks of international commentators.
Peskov stated, among other things, that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump used Vladimir Putin's name for political maneuvering. "We really, really don't like this and we still hope they will leave our president alone," the Kremlin spokesperson warned.
In his opinion, the United States has a hostile attitude towards Russia. He also expressed hope that the candidates will stop referring to Putin in such a manner.
The topic of Ukraine in the presidential debate
During Tuesday's debate, Kamala Harris said, among other things, that if Trump were president, Putin "would be sitting in Kyiv right now." She added that if it weren't for the actions of the Democrats, including current President Joe Biden in support of Ukraine, Putin would have won the war "with his eyes on the rest of Europe."
Trump, on the other hand, claimed that Harris met with Putin just before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. He also said that Putin and others consider Harris and Biden to be "weak" and "pathetic."
Last week, the White House urged Putin to stop commenting on the U.S. elections. Earlier, the Russian dictator stated that he "supports" Harris in the presidential election because "she laughs so contagiously" that it indicates "everything is fine with her."
"(Former US President Donald) Trump has imposed as many sanctions on Russia as any president has ever imposed before, and if Harris is doing well, perhaps she will refrain from such actions," Putin announced.
