Kiev on high alert: bolstered security and increased road checks amid Russian provocation fears
"From December 28, 2023, through January 6, 2024, we are bolstering our anti-sabotage efforts and security measures in the Kiev region. This decision was made during a meeting focused on defending the Kyiv area. We are aware that over the festive New Year's period, the enemy might plan new provocations," reported Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, through social media on Thursday.

Kravchenko also warned about the anticipated rise in road checkpoints in the Kyiv region in the coming days. For added safety, frequently visited places such as shopping centers, railway stations, and medical facilities will undergo inspections.
The intensified operations also aim to apprehend individuals sought by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. According to Kravchenko, police data reveals that over 11,000 people are registered as wanted for various criminal and administrative offenses.
"We urge everyone to remain alert. If you notice someone photographing or recording footage of defensive or essential infrastructure, notify the security authorities," stressed the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration head.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Police, Ivan Vyhiwski, informed that 30,000 police officers would maintain the country's peace and order in the coming days. Each day during this period will see 7,000 police patrols on duty, a jump from the previous average of 4,500 patrols before Russia invaded Ukraine last February.
Vyhiwski also reminded the public of the ban on fireworks, stating, "I'm sure no one is lacking in experience with explosions. Last year, we had several incidents involving fireworks; those responsible faced criminal charges, and their cases were forwarded to the courts," he disseminated via Telegram.
