KFC's latest launch: A BBQ‑Scented perfume for a good cause

The cosmetic industry appears to be an endless source of new product possibilities. Drugstore and perfumery shelves are overflowing with innovations that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Thus, it's not surprising to see the KFC chain seeking to carve out a niche for itself among cosmetic offerings. Their latest product might even surprise beauty aficionados.

The cosmetic industry is booming, from collaborations with celebrities to the launch of new brands by stars, from unique formulations to partnerships with companies from other sectors. This growth translates to more individuals and corporations exploring opportunities for profit. This includes care lines with food-scented products, a trend gaining traction internationally, as shown by the immense popularity of products from celebrities like Rihanna and Selena Gomez.

KFC introduces perfumes with an unusual scent

The fast-food behemoth is looking to make its mark on the beauty industry. KFC, the world-renowned chain known for its various fried chicken offerings, has decided to launch its line of perfumes. Their fragrance falls into a very unique category. Perfumery enthusiasts accustomed to scents of blood, earth, or bodily secretions will now encounter the aroma of barbecue sauce.

The launch of No 11 Eau de BBQ is slated for May 6, 2024, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. It will be available in Great Britain and Ireland, with a 3.4 oz bottle priced at just under 11 pounds, roughly $14.

According to KFC's website, "Everyone knows the irresistible smell of BBQ that tantalizes the senses and triggers cravings for that smoky flavor. Imagine being able to bottle that experience. There's no need to imagine with KFC's No 11 Eau de BBQ. We’re proud to introduce this limited-edition perfume that captures the essence of smoky wood and charcoal."

Income from the barbecue sauce-scented perfumes to support a noble cause

These distinctive perfumes aim to do more than stir interest. All proceeds from the sales of Eau de BBQ will benefit the KFC Foundation, which supports local communities and NGOs. The foundation aims to help young people realize their potential and work towards a positive future.

KFC has been flirting with the perfumery market for a while now

This isn't KFC's first foray into perfumery. At the end of 2023, the company's Spanish division released a limited-edition perfume called Eau D’uardo, inspired by the scent of fried chicken. This unique fragrance was available through the KFC app, priced at 3.99 euros, or about $4.30.
