In recent years, Keisha Whitaker made a name for herself as a savvy businesswoman, managing her own line of lip glosses. Her career began as a model and later expanded to include supporting roles in television series and films. It was during the filming of "Blown Away" that she met Forest Whitaker, the future Oscar winner for his remarkable performance in "The Last King of Scotland".

"He was very sincere, sensitive, and romantic. He swept me off my feet," Keisha fondly revealed during an interview with People Magazine.

Keisha and Forest tied the knot in 1996 and had two daughters together. They also co-parented two children from their previous relationships. The actor openly admitted that his wife was a stronger personality, more assertive, and ultimately the one who took charge in their family. Their children knew very well who the "good cop" was.

"When they want to negotiate something, they always approach me first. Then I take a long pause and ask: 'Have you discussed this with mom?'. Peace ensues thereafter," Forest Whitaker humorously disclosed in an interview with Parade.

The couple separated in 2018 citing "irreconcilable differences". By that time, their children had grown up.

True Whitaker announced her mother's death on December 7. Keisha was 51 at the time of her death.

"Goodbye mom, [...] the most beautiful woman in the world. Thank you for teaching me everything I know. I will carry you in my dreams and in my heart," the daughter wrote in her tribute.
