During the fall and winter, spiders look for safe shelters from frost and rain, often entering homes through windows and ventilation grates. While it may not always be easy to keep them away, you don't need specialized products. There are several simple, proven, and affordable methods to get rid of them in an eco-friendly way. If you're not familiar with these methods, it's a great time to learn before the colder weather hits.
How to deter spiders in the fall?
Spiders often appear in larger numbers in homes during the fall, as it's their mating season. They tend to stay until the weather warms up again. However, you can prevent this by using some tried-and-true deterrent methods.
The first and very inexpensive method is using baking soda. Baking soda is readily available at any grocery store, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it. Simply sprinkle baking soda in the areas where spiders are most commonly seen and on windowsills to prevent them from coming in through the windows. This should help keep these small arachnids at bay.
Another simple trick is using a mixture of vinegar and water. Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water and spray this solution in areas where spiders tend to appear. This should also help keep them away.

Baking soda and the vinegar-water mix aren't your only options. If you enjoy using essential oils, such as lavender, peppermint, citrus, or tea tree oil, you can use them against spiders as well. Add seven drops of your chosen oil to 17 fl oz of water, then mix it with one teaspoon of dish soap. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake well. Spray it on all windowsills, corners, and crevices in your house.
