Keep your fridge working efficiently: Clean the condenser regularly

Did you know that your refrigerator needs regular maintenance both inside and out? Besides cleaning the front and shelves, you should pay attention to the back of the appliance, which is often overlooked during cleaning. This is where most dust accumulates, which can negatively affect the refrigerator. A thick layer of dust on the condenser can lead to malfunction. Below, you will find tips on how to clean this crucial component, which is responsible, among other things, for effective refrigerator cooling.

The refrigerator is an indispensable appliance in every kitchen. Food would spoil quickly without it, and stocking up on groceries would be impossible. A refrigerator breakdown can cause many problems, from spoiled food to repair costs. Sometimes, the refrigerator consumes a lot of electricity, and the cause can be a layer of dust on the condenser. How can you find and remove it?

Refrigerator consuming too much electricity? It could be the condenser's fault

Not everyone knows how vital the condenser is in a refrigerator. The condenser is located on the back wall of the appliance and consists of a grid containing coolant. After cooling, the liquid condenses, creating cold steam that cools the refrigerator's interior. This part of the cooling system is essential for maintaining the proper temperature in the compartment.

Regular cleaning of the condenser ensures proper refrigerator functioning. Dust on the condenser can disrupt its operation, leading to higher energy consumption and problems with water condensation on the lowest shelf. To avoid this, learn how to clean the condenser easily. You can choose one of two solutions.

How to clean the condenser in the refrigerator?

If you have decided to clean the condenser, you must first locate it. As mentioned, it is often on the back wall, although some refrigerator models have it on the top plate or side wall (usually behind a flap).

Once you locate the condenser, disconnect the refrigerator from the power supply and prepare some essential tools. You will need a soft-bristled brush and a microfiber cloth. If you don't like manually brushing off dust, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a gentle attachment. It is essential to set the vacuum cleaner to the lowest power and gently clean the grid, removing all dust.

After removing the outer layer of dust, wipe all the grates with a soft cloth. Step by step, remove all the accumulated dust that may have built up over the years. Remember not to use detergents but rely solely on a cloth and the strength of your hands. Regular cleaning of the condenser will help prevent the re-accumulation of dust, thus ensuring the proper functioning of the refrigerator.
