The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported a threat from drone attacks in Tatarstan. In several districts of the city, residents heard explosions.

In response, the Federal Air Transport Agency announced the closure of the airport in the city.

"For the safety of civil aviation operations, temporary restrictions have been imposed on the functioning of Kazan Airport. The airport is not currently accepting or dispatching flights. Aircraft crews, air traffic controllers, and airport services are taking all necessary measures to ensure flight safety—that is the main priority," a department representative stated.

Local Telegram channels report that a fire broke out on the grounds of the aviation college and aircraft factories. It is likely that the drones targeting Kazan aimed at the aircraft factories and helicopters.

Kazan in the crosshairs of Ukrainians

This is another recent attack on the city. At the end of December, at least six unmanned aerial vehicles struck buildings in Kazan, with most hitting multi-story residential buildings.

Kazan is home to a gunpowder factory, key to the production of Iskander and Kalibr missiles that are used against Ukrainians. To protect this asset, Putin's army decided to neutralize the drones over residential buildings, which embedded themselves in high-rises.

At that time, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened Ukraine with "great destruction" in response to the attack. "Regardless of who and how tries to destroy something here, they must be prepared for far greater destruction in their own country—and they will bitterly regret it," warned Putin.
