Katie Holmes debunks rumors of trust fund for Suri Cruise
Katie Holmes commented on reports of an alleged multi-million dollar trust fund for her daughter, Suri Cruise, who was supposed to receive the money after her 18th birthday.
Suri is the youngest of Tom Cruise's three children. The "Mission: Impossible" star is also the father of 31-year-old Isabella Kidman Cruise and 29-year-old Connor Cruise, the children from his previous marriage to Nicole Kidman. Cruise's family relationships have been a subject of media interest for years, yet neither side publicly comments on these matters. There are occasional exceptions, however. When rumors about the trust fund that Suri Cruise was to receive after turning 18 appeared in the media, her famous mother felt the need to respond.
Suri, the trust fund, and millions
Katie Holmes was not going to let rumors about the financial situation of her and her daughter Suri, whom she shares with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, spread without a response. A few days after, on December 5, the media reported that 18-year-old Suri had become a "millionaire" thanks to an alleged trust fund from her father, which was said to activate upon her reaching adulthood, the actress decided to speak up.
"Complete false," wrote Katie on Instagram on December 8, sharing a screenshot of a "Daily Mail" article. In the caption, she added: "Enough" and emphasized that the British tabloid should stop making things up.
The mentioned text talks about how on April 18 of this year, when Suri celebrated her 18th birthday, a special fund established for her by her father was activated. The creation of such a fund was supposed to be one of the conditions of Cruise and Holmes' divorce. The text claimed that insiders said Suri could only use a portion of the money; the remaining sum would be accessible to her after turning 30. Katie Holmes was also said to have set up a second fund for her daughter. However, she directly calls these stories nonsense.
The star of the series "Dawson's Creek" has been protecting Suri's privacy since her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012, keeping her away from media noise. In recent years, however, she has started to speak a little about their life together.
Let's remember that Katie Holmes became involved with Tom Cruise around 2005. In June of that year, they got engaged at the top of the Eiffel Tower. On the anniversary of their first date, April 18, Suri was born. A few months later, the stars married during a Scientology ceremony in Italy. By 2007, rumors about marital problems began to circulate. Holmes filed for divorce in 2012, citing "irreconcilable differences."
