Vice President Kamala Harris, poised to succeed Joe Biden in the race to succeed Donald Trump as president of the United States, delivered her first speech on the White House lawn on Monday afternoon.
Harris on Biden’s achievements
"Our president Joe Biden wanted to be here today. He is feeling much better and recovering fast, and he looks forward to getting back on the road," began Kamala Harris.
She briefly recounted how she met Biden and added that she is "deeply grateful" for "his service to the nation." She emphasized that the current president of the USA has "a big heart, is honest, devoted to faith and family, and deeply loves his country."
Harris says, "Biden's achievements over the past three years are unparalleled in modern history." The gathered audience responded with applause to these words.
In the subsequent part of her speech, Harris moved on to the main topic of the meeting, which was to honor the 2023-2024 NCAA champions. "When you play, you inspire people across our nation. You remind all of us what can be achieved with hard work and ambition," she addressed the athletes.
