kallas skeptical of putin attending talks with zelensky in turkey
European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas doubts that Vladimir Putin will travel to Turkey for a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky. She believes the Russian leader may not be willing to take that step.
What do you need to know?
- Kaja Kallas has expressed skepticism about the likelihood of a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky in Turkey.
- The Democracy Summit Symposium in Copenhagen served as a platform where Kallas highlighted the significance of dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
- New EU sanctions may be imposed on Russia if it fails to take steps towards peace.
"It's a positive move; the discussion should take place between the two of them," Kaja Kallas remarked. During the Democracy Summit Symposium in Copenhagen, the EU's foreign policy chief expressed admiration for Volodymyr Zelensky, who called for a complete ceasefire and announced his intention to wait in Istanbul for Vladimir Putin on Thursday.
Will Putin dare to meet with Zelensky?
"I do not think that Vladimir Putin will dare to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Turkey," Kallas stated. She believes that although Zelensky is open to dialogue, Russia continues to "play a game."
Kallas reminded everyone that Ukraine has long been advocating for a ceasefire. "We need to see some goodwill from Russia," she stressed. In the absence of progress, the EU plans to impose new sanctions on Russia.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced that he is considering participating in the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Turkey on Thursday. However, it remains uncertain whether Putin will also attend.
