Vladimir Putin celebrated his 71st birthday on Saturday. In the capital of Chechnya, 25 thousand people gathered to honor the dictator's holiday - reported the Kremlin news agency RIA Novosti. Ramzan Kadyrov spoke at the rally. During his speech, he made a surprising proposal to the Russian leader.
"I propose now, while a special military operation is underway (as the war in Ukraine is called in Russia - editor's note), that we unanimously decide that in the elections we will have one candidate - Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Or temporarily cancel the elections," Kadyrov announced, as quoted by Reuters.
According to him, currently in Russia, "there is no other person who could defend the country".
Elections in Russia
In March 2024, presidential elections will take place in Russia. Putin has not yet announced his candidacy, but experts are certain that he will run.
Putin has been the head of the Kremlin since 1999. He took power after Boris Yeltsin. He is the longest-serving president in Russia since the time of Stalin. If he wins in the upcoming elections, he will serve as the head of the Kremlin until 2030.
