Ninety years ago, Joseph Stalin and the Soviet regime enforced a policy so cruel that it resulted in the famine-triggered deaths of millions of innocent Ukrainians. Today, in the 21st century, Vladimir Putin is repeating this attack on food security, these words were voiced to the world by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in his Saturday statement marking the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Great Famine.

"We commemorate the solemn anniversary of the Great Famine while the courageous nation of Ukraine continues to defend its freedom and sovereignty against Russia's ruthless, aggressive war," Biden commented in a statement published on the official White House website.

The US president highlighted the fact that millions of Ukrainians died from a famine that was a direct outcome of Stalin's policy between 1932 and 1933.

"Today, Ukrainian agricultural infrastructure is under deliberate attack - this time by Vladimir Putin in his quest for territorial conquest and power. Russian forces aim to compromise Ukraine's economy and independence by intentionally destroying fields, grain warehouses, and ports," the US President wrote.

Biden stressed that the unfolding events are not just an attack on Ukraine's economic security. It is also a cynical blow to global food security. "Putin is inflicting harm upon the world's most vulnerable communities to advance Russia's benefit," the US President underscored.

Additionally, Biden reiterated the United States' dedication to "prevent suffering, protect fundamental freedoms, and respond to human rights violations wherever and whenever they occur". He guaranteed that the US will continue to aid Ukraine in its battle for sovereignty and independence.
