Firefighters from Jersey (a British Crown Dependency) are appealing to residents to install the What3Words app on their phones. According to the BBC News portal, this app allows for accurate location determination when needed. Thanks to the grid system, the area is divided into squares measuring three by three yards, each with a distinctive address made up of three words.
The app will help locate those in need
A fire department representative explains that one of the first questions in an emergency is, "Where is the emergency?" Describing the exact location can be difficult, so the What3Words app makes it easier to provide an accurate location to rescue services. For example, the fire station headquarters in the app is marked as "returns.managed.defender".
Shorter winter days and adverse weather conditions, such as rain or fog, increase the risk of accidents. Firefighters emphasize that emergencies can occur anywhere, from Five Mile Road to the cliffs on the northern coast. Relying on descriptions based on landmarks can delay response times in life-threatening situations.
