A warning has been declared for the prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama on central Honshu island. Residents are urged to evacuate to higher ground without delay.

Initial images and videos are beginning to surface, exhibiting the increased water levels and the destruction inflicted by the earthquake.

The wave surging towards the Noto Peninsula might reach approximately 16 feet. Until now, waves exceeding 3 feet have hit the coasts near Wajima, HNK added.

According to a report by Reuters, Hokuriku Electric Power is currently investigating any potential malfunctions at its nuclear power plants.
