For six days, Los Angeles has been ravaged by massive fires. According to CNN and BBC, 24 people have died, and dozens are considered missing. The fires are destroying areas in three locations: Eaton, Hurst, and Pacific Palisades, where most homes have been burned down. CNN's latest data shows that the fire has consumed 5,000 homes. Much is being said about the damage suffered by celebrities. Homes lost include those of Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, and Jeff Bridges, but we must not forget about the thousands of other Los Angeles residents who did not have million-dollar estates like the stars.

One star highlighting the current Los Angeles events is actress Jamie Lee Curtis. The "The Bear" star informed her Instagram followers that she was evacuated with her family, but the fire did not threaten her property. However, a large part of her neighborhood and the church where she received help battling addiction were burned down.

The actress, who is vocally appealing for help for Los Angeles residents, sparked considerable controversy by comparing the fires in Los Angeles to the situation in war-torn countries in the Middle East. "The entire Pacific Palisades looks like Gaza or other countries where terrible events have occurred," Curtis said during a Q&A session for the film "The Last Showgirl." Her comment did not go unnoticed.

The actress's words were met with a wave of criticism on social media. Users, including those on X, emphasized that comparing the fires to war zones is inappropriate and diminishes the destruction of each event. "Don't compare a natural disaster to genocide!" wrote one internet user. It's worth noting that since October 2023, more than 40,000 Palestinians were reported to have died in the Gaza Strip. However, it is said that this number is greatly underestimated because many bodies remain buried under the rubble of buildings destroyed in airstrikes. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, nearly half a million people in the Gaza Strip will experience extreme hunger in the coming months.

Recently, the actress has appealed for support for fire victims, encouraging assistance for organizations like the Red Cross. Curtis and her family have pledged to donate $1 million to the relief fund for those affected. "Do everything you can to help," she wrote on Instagram.

The fires in Los Angeles, including the largest in Pacific Palisades and Eaton, have already burned over 86,000 acres. Firefighters are working around the clock to contain the situation. This week, a person suspected of arson was arrested but not charged due to a lack of evidence. According to a report, the fires could cause damages amounting to $150 billion, making them the costliest in U.S. history.
