It's shaping up to be the hit of the season. The premiere of two movies(!) with Kevin Costner is already next year

"Horizon: An American Saga" by Kevin Costner will arrive in theaters worldwide in 2024. Warner Bros. announced that the film turned out to be longer than anticipated, so it will be shown in two parts. What do we know about the monumental production signed by the American star?

The latest work by Kevin Costner has been planned on a truly grand scale. Next year's premiere is just the beginning of a multi-part historical spectacle. The whole thing has been spread over a trilogy, which will take place during the times of the expansion of white settlement in the west of America.

As reported by Variety, Costner originally planned to shoot four different films. They were to be released every three months. It is unknown whether the actor and director still maintains his intention.

As reported by Collider, Costner's latest work will span over a period of 15 years. The action will be set in the western part of America both before and after the Civil War. "Horizon" is an attempt at a deeper analysis of this period in history.

– The expansion of America to the west was full of dangers and intrigues, starting from natural conditions, to interactions with the indigenous people inhabiting these lands (...). "Horizon" tells this story in an honest and straightforward way, highlighting perspectives and consequences of life and death decisions of the heroes – explained Costner in a conversation with Horseyhooves.

As reported by Variety, the star also mentioned the significant feminine perspective in the story, not so obvious in the context of a genre like the western:

- It's a story about women who are trying to cope in an incredibly difficult world. Often they were dragged into these places because men wanted to go there; women followed their men. They didn't ask to live in territories that were uninhabited and dangerous, and life there was not easy.

Alongside Costner himself, who is simultaneously the producer, screenwriter, and director of the saga, we will see many familiar names on the screen. The cast includes, among others, Jena Malone ("Contact"), Sienna Miller ("American Sniper"), Sam Worthington ("Avatar"), Abbey Lee ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), Giovanni Ribisi ("Ted"), Will Patton ("Armageddon"), Kathleen Quinlan ("Apollo 13"), Luke Wilson ("Vacancy") or Jamie Campbell Bower ("Stranger Things").

Costner's co-screenwriter is Jon Baird, J. Michael Muro ("City of Anger") is responsible for the cinematography, and Lisa Lovaas ("Transformers") is in charge of costumes. Muro and Lovaas, along with set designer Derek R. Hill and editor Miklos Wright, are also involved in working on the sequel.

The premiere of "Horizon: An American Saga" is scheduled for 2024. The first part will be released on June 28th, the second on August 16th.
