Tragic scenes unfolded off the coast of Masokut Island. Giulia Manfrini was attacked by a swordfish, which, at one point, unexpectedly leaped out of the water and pierced her chest with its "sword."

Italian media reported that Manfrini suffered a two-inch wound from this horrific incident. Two eyewitness surfers immediately assisted and transported the injured woman to a medical facility. Unfortunately, her life could not be saved.

Manfrini was from Venaria Reale in the Piedmont region of Italy. Originally a snowboard instructor, she transitioned to surfing after an injury. She moved to Bali, where she honed her surfing skills and started a travel agency.

Touching farewell to the 36-year-old surfer

James, her business partner, bid farewell to the 36-year-old surfer in a touching tribute.

We believe that Giulia died doing what she loved, in a place she adored. She was the soul of our business, and her infectious enthusiasm for surfing, snow, and life will forever remain in the memory of those who had the chance to know her, he wrote on Instagram.

Indonesian authorities plan to transport Giulia Manfrini's body by boat to the port in Padang, from where it will be sent to Italy.
