An unimaginable tragedy occurred during training. The young athlete had an accident that resulted in her death.

Born on November 15, 2004, Lorenzi was considered one of the greatest hopes of Italian alpine skiing.

During training on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, she fell and suffered severe injuries. The young athlete lost her balance during a slalom and, due to the fall, sustained serious head injuries.

She was immediately transported by helicopter to a hospital in Bolzano, but despite the doctors' efforts, she could not be saved.

We express deep sorrow at the passing of Matilde Lorenzi. We lost her tragically in an accident during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales – according to a statement by the FIS, quoted by the Polish Press Agency.

Lorenzi was also a soldier, as noted in a statement by the Italian Ministry of Defense.

On behalf of the entire army and myself, I extend condolences to the whole family of Corporal Matilde Lorenzi, who died during slalom training in Val Senales – wrote Carmine Masiello from the Italian army.

In the previous season, she competed in the World Junior Championships, where she finished sixth in the downhill and eighth in the super-G. She also participated in the European Cup events, preparing for her debut in the World Cup.

Her tragic death shocked the sports community in Italy and around the world. Teammates remember her as a talented and passionate athlete who had a promising career ahead of her.
