How to Make an Italian Chopped Sandwich

Italian cuisine is renowned for its marriage of taste and simplicity. It's no surprise that Italian recipes have gained popularity around the world. One of the rising trends on TikTok is the Italian chopped sandwich.

Making this sandwich is undemanding. You only need a few commonly available ingredients which you can find at any grocery store.

Ingredients for 3-4 servings:

  • 3-4 large ciabattas,
  • Romaine lettuce (or a pre-packaged salad mix),
  • 6 slices of Italian ham,
  • 6 slices of salami,
  • 6 slices of pepperoni salami,
  • 6-7 slices of Provolone cheese,
  • Half a red onion,
  • 1 tomato,
  • 1 bell pepper (yellow is suggested),
  • 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise,
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil, plus extra for bread spread,
  • Salt and pepper to taste,
  • Italian seasoning (or a mix of oregano, basil, etc.).

Preparation

  1. Cut the ciabattas crosswise, but not all the way through.
  2. Lay out the washed and dried lettuce, cold cuts, sliced onion, and sliced tomato and pepper on a large chopping board.
  3. Mince everything into small pieces.
  4. Lightly brush the inside of each ciabatta with olive oil and toast it on a heated grill pan until the bread turns golden.
  5. Load up the rolls with the filling, and they're ready.

The resulting sandwich is both aromatic and flavorsome. The crunch of the ciabatta pairs well with the juiciness of the cold cuts, vegetables, and mild cheese.
