Hagari explained that the soldiers will now "break-in, place explosive charges where the terrorists appear most often, and execute them underground at the optimal time".

Tunnels serve as protection from aerial bombings

Israel alleges that there is an intricate network of long-range tunnels under the Gaza Strip, which are used by terrorists as shelters. These tunnels are also utilized to hold Israeli hostages.

Some of these subterranean corridors delve to a depth of several tens of meters (roughly 65 to 130 feet), a feature designed to protect Hamas members from aerial bombings. The terrorists also use the tunnels to stage surprise attacks on Israeli soldiers. Many of these are rigged with explosive charges, setting traps for Israeli soldiers.

Significant rise in Gaza casualties

On October 7, Hamas launched an attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, allegedly causing approximately 1.2 deaths and around 240 individuals were transported to the Strip. During the ceasefire, which lasted from November 24 to December 1, 110 hostages were successfully rescued.

We will persist in our efforts to bring the remaining individuals back to their homes - Hagari assured.

The Israeli army has been conducting a military operation against Hamas for more than two months. According to information released by Hamas, approximately 19 thousand Palestinian civilians have been killed in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing military operations.
