On Saturday at 12:30 AM Eastern Time, Hamas began an attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. Unofficial information suggests that the militants took hostages, which the Israeli military has not confirmed yet.
This is the first reaction from the United States. The American Chargé d'Affaires in Israel has responded to the situation. "I condemn the indiscriminate rocket fire by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians. I am in contact with Israeli officials, and fully support Israel's right to defend itself from such terrorist acts," wrote Stephanie Hallett.
CNN reports that American officials are "watching with concern the large-scale attack from the Gaza Strip on Israel". They are working on assessing the outbreak of conflict.
USA-Israel Talks
As CNN reminds, the last conversation between Joe Biden and Binjamin Netanyahu took place in September. The American president has long defended Israel's right to self-defense, CNN reports.
The highest officials of Biden have been working for months to negotiate such an agreement that would transform the conflict-ridden region. It would also include some concessions in favor of the Palestinians, who have been watching the US-Israel discussions with concern.
