Israel confirms the elimination of top Hamas commander Mohammed Deif
Mohammed Deif, commander of the Kassam Brigades, the armed militia of Hamas, who led the Palestinian attack on Israel, has been eliminated. Israeli authorities have confirmed this.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense conveyed the information about the "elimination" of a key Hamas commander.
The operation was described as a "precise" and planned attack.
The "Teheran Times" published on its profile the moment of the attack on the location where Mohammed Deif was present on July 13. Israeli fighter jets targeted the area of Khan Yunis at that time.
Who was Deif?
Mohammed Deif (Deif, meaning "Guest") had led the Kassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, since 2002. Israel holds him responsible for numerous suicide attacks and the killing of dozens of Israeli soldiers and civilians. He was partially responsible for the construction of the extensive system of Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. Unofficially, it was Deif who helped plan and subsequently led a large part of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
As Deutsche Welle reports, it is believed that he survived seven assassination attempts. However, he was seriously injured in them, reportedly losing an eye, a foot, and part of an arm. Several members of his family were killed in attacks aimed at Deif. Deif never appeared publicly. His only known photo is from 2000. For years, he is said to have spent each night in a different house to protect himself from Israeli attacks.
