ISIS threatens major European events: Alarm over carnival attacks
The Islamic State Province of Khorasan threatens attacks on major events, including the Venice Carnival, reports "Bild". "The threat is serious," warns a security official.
Islamists from the organization Islamic State Province of Khorasan (IS-K) are threatening attacks on major events and festivals in Europe. According to "Bild", the targeted events could include the Venice Carnival, Oktoberfest in Munich, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Vienna Opera Ball. These threats were published on the IS-K propaganda platform Al Azaim Media.
"This is a terrifying call for attacks from the Islamic State to its terrorists. They should not wait any longer, but carry out attacks this year," reported "Bild".
The Islamic State Province of Khorasan is responsible for the devastating attack on the Moscow concert hall almost 10 months ago, which killed over 140 people. Following the attacks in the German cities of Solingen and Magdeburg and in New Orleans (USA), security services are on high alert.
Terrorist threat in Europe
A security official explained to "Bild" why the threat should be taken seriously: "The conflict with Israel continues to cause a high level of mobilization among Islamists. Additionally, recent attacks have shown that a car or a knife is sufficient. Potential attackers are aware of this too."
The terrorist organization aims to spread fear and terror by again announcing a public call for attacks and listing major public events and festivals as potential targets.
"We face a dilemma because we don't want to cause panic, but we must honestly warn people as the risk of a terrorist attack remains as high as ever," the official stated. "Unfortunately, it must be said that after the recent attacks, the likelihood of more attacks has increased even further," he added.
