The cutting board is an essential item in every kitchen. Although we use it multiple times daily, we rarely realize how important proper cleaning is. It can also be a powerful breeding ground for bacteria.

It's important to maintain the cleanliness of the cutting board

Washing the board thoroughly and immediately after each use is extremely important to ensure hygiene in every home. Otherwise, it becomes a source of harmful microorganisms and spreading bacteria. Preparing subsequent meals on a poorly washed board can affect the household.

How can you effectively clean a cutting board? There are various ways to do this. A damp board can be treated with strong detergents, which you can buy at any store. However, more beneficial solutions are inexpensive, effective, and ecological antibacterial agents, which you can easily find at home.

Home methods that are worth using

A simple mixture also helps with bacteria on the board. Mix half a cup of vinegar with the same amount of water. Wipe the board's surface with the solution, and then rinse thoroughly under running water. If there's an unpleasant smell, add lemon juice to the mixture.

Citric acid, salt, and baking soda are also effective ways to disinfect and clean the cutting board. Simply apply some of these substances to the dirty surface and gently rub it with a dish sponge or soft cloth. All dirt and microorganisms should disappear in no time.

Be mindful to protect your hands during the everyday maintenance of the board's cleanliness. Remember to wear gloves to protect your skin from irritations and premature aging. This is especially important when using strong detergents and cleaning agents.

It's also important not to leave a wooden cutting board in water for a long time during cleaning. Once soaked, such a kitchen accessory will swell and lose its properties. We should also avoid placing the board in the dishwasher.
