Cottage cheese appears to be an ideal choice for those aiming to lose weight. It is low in calories, carbohydrates, and fat, leading to a belief that it can be eaten freely. Is that really true?
Clinical nutritionist Milena Nosek, in an interview with Onet, emphasized that although cottage cheese is healthy, not everyone should consume it daily. Individuals with high LDL cholesterol levels or hypertension should be particularly cautious and limit their intake.
— It should not be consumed in large amounts, that is, every day, by people wanting to reduce body weight or with impaired lipid metabolism, as well as hypertension and edema, due to its high sodium content — evaluated the expert.
Impact of cottage cheese on health
Nutritionist Milena Nosek points out that cottage cheese is recommended in the diet, provided there are no food intolerances, such as lactose intolerance or a casein allergy.
— You can consume cottage cheese, eating rationally, without any special restrictions, when there is no lactose intolerance, allergy to casein, or other forms of discomfort — explained the expert.
People aiming to reduce body weight or those with lipid metabolism issues should monitor its consumption. High sodium content may adversely affect people with hypertension and edema.
What is the best way to enjoy cottage cheese?
Expert Milena Nosek recommends combining granular cheese with complex carbohydrates and vegetables. In a sweet version, it pairs well with berry fruits, seeds, nuts, honey, dried fruits, or nuts. In a savory version, it's worth combining it with whole-grain bread, vegetable oil, and sprouts.
Despite its advantages, granular cheese does not pair well with all ingredients. Nosek points out to avoid combining it with citrus fruits, which may worsen its flavor. Due to its high sodium content, additional salting of the product eaten alone or in dishes prepared with it is not recommended.
