Is Apple going back to its roots? Leaked graphics reveal striking changes for iPhone 16
Apple enthusiasts may recall the square camera module featuring vertically aligned lenses on the back of the iPhone 11 and 12 models. For the 13, 14, and 15 models, Apple relocated the bottom lens. This change was attributed to the incorporation of a larger sensor, allowing for more space without the need to enlarge the module.
However, it appears that Apple is gearing up for another design shift next year, or more accurately, a return to its roots.
iPhone 16: Leaked Graphics hint at Potential Design Alterations
MacRumors, known for their credible early release of information about previous models, unveiled graphics presenting the projected appearance of the iPhone 16. More precisely, they revealed two potential versions, as the final design doesn't appear to be finalized yet.
The iPhone 16 is expected to feature vertically aligned lenses, similar to the design seen in the iPhone 12. One of the speculated design changes involves the seamless integration of these lenses, helping set the new model apart from its predecessors.
Why this change, you might ask? My theory is that Apple aims to offer 3D movie recording capabilities with the use of Apple Vision Pro goggles in mind. In the iPhone 15 series, this feature was exclusively available for the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, presumably because the lens configuration of the less expensive versions didn't produce a stereoscopic effect.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 is expected to inherit the multifunctional Action Button from the Pro models, which replaces the switch traditionally used for silencing ringtones. The new series of smartphones is anticipated for release in September 2024.
