Irish restaurant's playful stunt with Ryanair CEO goes viral
The owners of an Irish restaurant decided to play a unique joke on Michael O’Leary, the CEO of Ryanair. O’Leary was surely surprised when he discovered what had been added to his bill.
Michael O’Leary, the Irish entrepreneur and CEO of Ryanair, experienced an amusing surprise at Luvida restaurant in Navan. After dining there, he noticed that 37.85 euros (about $41) had been unexpectedly added to his bill.
They played a joke on the Ryanair CEO
At the Irish restaurant, O’Leary ordered perch, mushroom bruschetta, tempura shrimp, and white wine. The total amount on the bill was 142.3 euros (almost $155).
However, some items on the receipt caught the man by surprise. An extra charge of 7.95 euros was added for more legroom. But that wasn't all. There was also an additional 9.95 euros charged for priority seating and 19.95 euros for a reservation in a quiet part of the restaurant, totaling 37.85 euros. It seems O’Leary fell victim to the same policy he’s known for—charging extra for every additional comfort.
The restaurant manager explained that it was merely a joke. O’Leary took it in stride and even posed for a picture with the staff.
Reactions and comments
The restaurant took advantage of the situation as free advertising by posting a picture of the bill on social media, and this unusual event quickly gained them unexpected popularity.
Netizens have openly expressed their delight at the humorous idea, with most reacting with laughing emojis. "Simply brilliant," "Great idea," "Best joke ever," they commented. Some even joked that he should have been charged for extra plates, cutlery, glasses, and the opportunity to use the restroom.
