Iran's threat: Diego Garcia base on alert amid tensions
British media report that Iran may attack the U.S.-British military base Diego Garcia NSF Airport if the United States strikes Iranian infrastructure first. The base is situated in the Indian Ocean, controlled by the United Kingdom and the USA. Tehran plans to use ballistic missiles and drones for the attack.
Is the conflict between the United States and Iran heating up again? It cannot be ruled out. According to journalists from "The Telegraph," an Iranian attack on the joint U.S. and UK base at Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, located about 1,200 miles from Iran in the Indian Ocean, may occur in the coming months.
Tehran is set to launch a retaliatory attack on "any attack launched from this base." Iran intends to deter the United States from striking Iranian nuclear and military facilities in this way. Rumors of these attacks reached the Iranian government after Donald Trump announced that Tehran has "two months" to sign a new nuclear agreement with the USA.
A senior Iranian military official, cited by "The Telegraph," claims that long-range ballistic missiles and drones are to be used for the attack. Meanwhile, the Iranian military threatened that Turkey and other countries that provide their territory for U.S. military purposes may also be attacked.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s U.S. or British territory. When the time comes, it won’t matter if you are an American, British, or Turkish soldier — you will be a target if your base is used by the Americans, said the Iranian military official.
The Americans have deployed between 5 and 9 Northrop B-2 Spirit long-range strategic bombers at the Diego Garcia NSF Airport base, which they transferred from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
