The death of General Seyeda Razi Musawi, a longtime advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria, could add further complexity to the Middle Eastern situation. Iran has already announced plans for revenge.
Tensions are already high in the Red Sea where Houthi rebels in Yemen are attacking international maritime transport, justifying these actions by claiming connections of the ships with Israel. Such actions have disrupted global trade. To counter these threats, the United States formed a coalition of countries. Operation Prosperity Guardian, aimed at protecting the shipping routes, was joined by Britain, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the Seychelles, Spain, and Greece.
The conflict is escalating. In Iraq and Syria, over 100 attacks on bases housing American soldiers have been carried out by Iran-backed Islamic Resistance militias. This is seen as retaliation for Washington's support for Israel.
Top-ranking Iranian general killed in Israeli strike in Syria, Iran vows retaliation
General Seyed Razi Musawi was killed in the bombing of the Sayida Zeinab district in Damascus on Monday, which took place in an area where an Islamic temple is located. The British "The Daily Mail" confirmed this death, as did the Iranian news agency IRNA and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi proclaimed that Musawi "died a martyr", defending temples in Syria and "upholding Islamic ideals". He further declared that "the Israeli regime will pay for this crime".
The border clashes between Hezbollah and Israel in Lebanon continue to escalating. Rocket exchanges, air attacks, and cross-border shelling are daily occurrences.
